 3) Advisory Committee for the Library: The Library Committee plays a vital role in enhancing and developing the library services, making suitable policies that will help the library to render its best. The committee holds two meetings every year. .in which Library Budget, Book purchase, Magazine, Journals Renewal, & other issues related to library and its services are taken up with the permission of the chairperson of the library committee for discussion. The second meeting in which the resolutions passed in the previous meeting are followed up and reviewed. Other issues prevailing at the time are also taken up.

The basic structure of an effective committee comprises a chairperson and  and other members

 who carry out tasks such as attending meetings. giving feedback on assessments. supporting planning and coordination.

In most cases, a committee is concerned with the communication of information and with assisting the leadership in the decision-making process by providing needed information  the basic purpose of a committee .

 

 Advisory Committee for the Library

 A governing body of a library is also known by different names like "Library Committee", "Library Board", "Board of Director", "Library Trustees" and "Advisory Committee". In India, such a governing body is commonly called a Library Committee.

A library committee is a group of individuals responsible for overseeing a library's operation and management. The committee may include representatives from various departments or organizations, as well as librarians and other professionals who work in the field of information science.

Advisory committees are a structured way for individual citizens to share their opinions and perspectives, study issues, and develop recommendations in a focused, small group structure.

Committees are created to accomplish tasks. It is the responsibility of committee members to read the agenda, understand it, make motions, and then follow through with the resolutions of their actions.

 Appointing new committee members. It is common for committee members to serve “terms” and have a term limit.

The National Mission on Libraries was launched on February 3, 2014, by the then-President of India, Mr. Pranab Mukherjee. Library Committee (1957) was chaired by Dr. S.R. Ranganathan to look into the functioning of academic libraries.

Powers and Functions

·         Allocation of funds for books and journals in various subjects.

·         Framing and suggesting amendments to library code of conduct.

·         Assessment of the library services provided by the library, if necessary. Suggesting improvements in library services.

The Role of Librarian

The Librarian is the  Chairman  of the Committee. The function of the Library Committee is to support the functioning of the library so that it can facilitate the library development plans by advocating the library development activities with the management.
